Minimum Qualifications: Promotional; One year as a Rehabilitation Counselor 1 AND a bachelor's degree in a human service field* or NYS licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Open Competitive: Either 1: a bachelor’s degree in a human service field* AND three years post-bachelor’s qualifying experience;** Or 2: a master’s degree in a human service field* AND two years of post-bachelor’s qualifying experience;** 0r 3: a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling AND one year of post-bachelor’s qualifying experience.**

* For the purpose of these examinations, human service field includes disciplines related to the following: addiction studies; child and family studies; communication disorders; community health; education; gerontology; health administration; human services; nursing; nutrition; occupational therapy; physical therapy; psychology; recreation therapy, including art, dance, drama, and music; rehabilitation counseling; social work; and sociology.

** Qualifying Experience: To qualify for the examination you must have professional experience providing vocational, psychosocial, or rehabilitative/habilitative services in an agency primarily serving individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, mental illness, or addictions. Internship experience does not count if it was credited toward the qualifying degree.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures a responsible written assessment of individuals’ rehabilitation/vocational skills, deficits and growth potential based upon the results of the evaluation’s that are provided.
• Coordinates the development of individual’s rehabilitation/vocational goals and objectives with the treatment team and staff in order to develop an active treatment plan.
• Advises on cases involving difficult or precedential problems in the area of rehabilitative/vocational needs
• Train personnel in active treatment programs and ensures staff are engaging individuals in active treatment.
• Participates as a member of the Senior Management Team.
• Develops, oversees and coordinates community vocational opportunities
• Implement active treatment programs in the area of vocational skills development for individuals who reside at the LIT, with the future goal of facilitating the full inclusion of individuals in the community as it relates to work and employment.
• Develops, implements and supervises appropriate and innovative activities that support vocational skills acquisition in a variety of settings, including but not limited to the classroom, the residence, the community, classroom-without-walls opportunities and so forth.
• Serves as liaison with support staff who provide mentoring opportunities to service recipients.
• Participates in various committees as determined by the Treatment Team Leader.
• Ensure all staff is trained on various policy and procedures.
• Conducts meetings with the Treatment Team.
• Oversees compliance with regulations for survey.
• Other duties as assigned.
