Salary RangeFrom $91365 to $115490 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least five years* of legislative experience. A thorough understanding of the NYS legislative process is required, along with excellent written and oral communication skills. Supervisory experience is preferred.
* A Master’s degree or J.D. may be substituted for a year of experience.
Duties Description Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Governmental and External Affairs (OGEA), the incumbent will serve as the Director of the Office of Governmental Affairs (OGA) and will manage the daily operations of the office. Duties will include but are not limited to:
• Developing, advocating and negotiating the Department of Health’s state legislative agenda, including Departmental legislation;
• Coordinating and conducting negotiations on health care legislation and the $50 billion state Health Budget, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office, the Division of the Budget and Department of Health staff;
• Working with Department staff to develop cohesive relationships with federal, state and local elected and appointed officials and legislators;
• Monitoring legislation affecting the Department and coordinating and developing the Department’s positions on those proposals;
• Working with the Governor’s Office on developing and negotiating the Governor’s Program Bills;
• Resolving legislative inquiries;
• Providing legislative information to relevant offices within the Department including program areas, Finance, Administration and Public Affairs;
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
