Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance or coordination of, but not limited to, the following tasks and activities as described:
• Perform maintenance and repairs on various equipment; duties may include changing or sharpening cutting blades, basic tune-ups, mixing fuel per equipment specifications, sharpening and servicing chainsaws, changing tires, etc.
• General maintenance including but not limited to litter control, grounds upkeep and landscaping, snow and ice control, and restroom facilities (supplies/cleanliness).
• Conducts inspections of assigned area for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible and makes recommendations to supervisor for appropriate skilled trades assistance.
• Conducts inventory of tools, small equipment and supplies. Submits recommendations to supervisor for ordering materials.
• Operates light trucks, dump trucks, snowplows, tractors and equipment as required.
• Acts as shift supervisor for assigned area. Directs and coordinates subordinate staff (both full-time and seasonal) in the performance of assignments.
• Trains subordinate staff in the proper operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
• Assists in coordinating and executing programs and special events.
• Performs office related duties such as issuing permits, collecting and accounting for park revenue, conducting audits, answering telephone inquiries, and preparing various reports. Working knowledge of Aspira and Ventek Pay Station systems a plus.
• Assists visitors with park information and addressing concerns in the field. Brings to supervisor’s attention any issues that cannot be resolved.
• Assists supervisor with agency training.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete Game of Logging levels 1, 2, and 3 or equivalent training within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. Willing to receive First Aid, CPR and AED training.
• Must be able to work a variable schedule and will be required to work weekends, holidays and evening hours as needed.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park visitors.
